Pretty much - "safer" = heavier. As much as I liked my parent's Festiva, there's no way it would hold up to being hit by anything bigger than itself.

I'm thinking my next car will have to either be a Volvo 240 or an older Subaru. They look to be a ton of fun. The only mechanical experience I've got with a Subie so far is changing the oil on a friend's Outback, but it was a total breeze compared to my current car.
