I mostly agree with you. First season of Universe tried a bit too hard to be BSG-Lite, but the second season was fantastic. It's a real shame so many SG-1 and Atlantis fans didn't give it a chance.

I don't know if I'd call the franchise underrated per say. It's a goofy action adventure series, and aside from Universe (which I would agree is underrated) it never tried to be anything more than that.
