Didn’t SAE revise US horsepower rating regulations like 10 or 15 years ago? My guess is it loses 0 hp and is simply rated using slightly different requirements as I recall US engines magically losing HP when those regulations changed. And they weren’t emissions regulations.

I recall riding in a Ford probe that had a digital speedometer maxed out at 88 and would flash after that my dad would always call his speed 88 flash flash. I know for sure the second digit could display anine because it could display 19 and 29 mph fine. What a strange decision from whoever made that speedo.
