In the case of parallel hybrids like the Audi, that’s actually because the torque curves don’t line up, not because of battery peak draw. It makes no sense to make an oversized electric motor in a parallel hybrid, because all power going into that motor is coming from the battery.

The difference in this case is not drivetrain loss, it’s electrical delivery, and it’s more than an 18% loss.
