I mean, the Genius Bar thing is neat-sounding ... but that's it? That's all the next major iteration of iTunes has to offer? This ranks right up there with Gmail and GCal remaining in beta for the last billion years.

*sigh* While OpenOffice is super appealing, my grad school requires that I have Office 2007 Ultimate - thank goodness this offer came along again. $680 would be a tough pill to swallow.

@johnsmith1234: I agree - unless there is some definitive reason to switch from VirtuaWin, I'm content to use that.

VOTE: Windows Desktop Search 4.0

@ViperBorg: I tried it out on my home network, and sad to say, the O.S. qualifiers are still vague (my Windows machine shows up as Windows; my router shows up as NOT WIN, as does my Macbook).

Weeelll, I concur with everyone else - I don't really see a reason to switch to Editra.

I've been a Notepad++ user for about three years and I am intrigued by this product. I'll give it a whirl and see if it's really worth making the switch.

Vote: Forklift (OS X)

VOTE: Syncback (freeware version)

I'm okay with the thought of digitally storing voicemails (so they could conceivably be attached to project management, contact management, etc.), but I, too, am getting tired of having to call people back. Then again, maybe the age of the internet has made people less prone to attaching importance to messages (e.g.,

@24wm: Hahaha, not good ... I wonder what the deal is with my RC2...

Only thing I notice is that my Remember the Milk add-on for Gmail isn't appearing. Anyone else got this going on?

@samuraispy: "Not your cup of tea" could also mean Quicksilver is a bit too much of a program simply for hotkeys. I for one have been looking for this functionality outside of Quicksilver for a long time (don't get me wrong, I like Quicksilver - it just does more than I need it to).

I guess it depends on the intended audience. For programmers, learning C/C++ first will really set the stage for whatever languages come later. For non-programmers, I'd actually recommend Bash or Perl (or maybe even VBScript). Interpreted scripting isn't the most comprehensive "language set" out there, but the

@ParJoe and @Joseph: My Firefox 2 has been crashing in Gmail a TON lately ... not sure what the deal is there. My friend is currently running the latest 3 beta (minus the extensions, of course), and he's had no problems whatsoever with Gmail ... so looks like we'll have to wait.

VOTE (Windows/Linux): Pidgin

Very cool - but why would I change from being a paid subscriber to SpanningSync? I don't say that facetiously, I would really like to know (because if this ends up being better, I'll make the switch once my paid time runs out).

Nice! This is a tremendous giveaway (especially if it's true that beta testers will continue to get this software for free as new versions - even release ones - are finalized).
