LOL, glad to hear she likes it. My wife drives a Miata and I drive a GTI, so I definitely appreciate the utility a hatchback offers. She wants something “sexy” to drive, which the Miata fits. Who knows what she’ll want when we need “family” cars. The GTI could pull some family duty if it was a 4-door, but mine is a

Agreed. While they’re a little “boring”, that is mostly in comparison to my GTI and my wife’s Miata. After driving a VW Passat loaner while my GTI was in for warranty work a couple weeks back, I was surprised at how CHEAP the thing felt. My dad had an early 2000's Passat that was fun & engaging (and a little

I think Honda has mastered the “not a car-person” car.

Yet here I am browsing Craigslist & CarGurus for used cars that have the highest depreciation. Why buy a beat-to-shit 4Runner with 120,000 miles for $25k when I can get a well-maintained Land Rover that hasn’t seen anything rougher than the mall parking lot for the same price?

That sounds like a blast! How does the tune affect the drivability? I daily drive a 2011 GTI with a Stage 1 tune & catback exhaust, and it’s as fast as I’d ever need it to be. I definitely want my next “family” vehicle to be at least moderately fun to zip around in.

If you want luxury for your daily driver without compromising much off-road performance, the Lexus GX is the smart choice. If you want to skip the luxury pretenses, a 4Runner is always a safe bet with their shallow depreciation curve.

I’ll NEVER hate on a car company for offering interesting colors. There’s enough Gray/White/Black already. I remember when VW offered a whole palette of colors for the Golf R. Sure, hardly anyone paid the extra to do it, but at least they tried

Add a turbocharger. Or a supercharger. Possibly both? Either way, problem solved.

Shitting on shitty design =/= shitting on Elon.

It still has a stick, but I blew out my left knee a few years back and can’t work a clutch anymore. I had to sell my manual Golf to get a DSG equipped GTI (which I LOVE) while I recover, and I’m not sure I’ll ever get back to the point where I can daily drive a MT. Hopefully a weekend car. If a car gives me the option

I like the idea of this car - something small and practical that can handle some light off road use - and I think it actually looks good! But everything I hear about Fiat/Jeep reliability has me steering clear. If I’m going to settle for an unreliable car with off-road aspirations, I’ll stick to the German or

Mk6 VW GTI here. Last year I replaced a bad ignition cylinder (saving hundreds from what the dealer quoted me), and now my horn doesn’t work. I’ve done a bunch of troubleshooting, but haven’t been able to figure out where the fault is. I keep putting it off, because I just don’t want to remove the steering wheel AGAIN

This just goes to show that there are many ways to Jalop. I appreciate that we have a 1,000hp hybrid Porsche build to watch, on the same website that we also get to see David Tracy MacGuyver his $500 Jeeps across the country with nothing but elbow grease and sheer determination.

I know this redesign is long overdue, but I really like how this looks. With the new Frontier, Pathfinder, and Z on the way, I hope Nissan finds their “fun” groove again. I wouldn’t complain about a new Xterra either...

This is an awesome looking car. My new neighbor parks theirs on the street in front of our apartment complex, and I’ve been admiring it for the past few weeks.

This. The GTI does occasionally get marked down, but $20k seems like a special case, and not typical. Regardless, the R being a limited production model will typically get marked UP at the dealer, making the price difference more stark. While I’d love to have an R for a number of reasons (AWD! That pretty blue! 300+HP

It’s probably a bit more tame & well-mannered than your RS. But VW tends to underrate their cars - and if you really crave a bit more speed, a Stage 1 tune from APR is typically very reliable and boosts power by ~10-20%. I’ve been running a Stage 1 ECU tune (more powah) and DSG tune (shifting remapped to handle the

That’s interesting to hear. Looks like it’s time to start shopping for Land Rovers instead of an MDX!

They probably bought the rights for a song. With the pandemic and controversy last year, I’m guessing Evo’s founders were struggling to find a path forward and needed serious financial backing to see it through. Sony stepped in to save the day with what amounts to a drop in the bucket.  With eSports becoming more

I always take Consumer Reports with a grain of salt...
