Is a theatrically-released film really the best medium for a Dune adaptation? There is so much plot and world-building even in the first book that it seems like their cuts would have to be savage, making Peter Jackson’s LOTR films look purist by comparison.

In retrospect the pseudo-Blofeld who gets dropped down a smokestack like a chump definitely feels like a dry run for Dr. Evil.

The Rocketeer and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow seem to be about the only Streamline Moderne/retro-futurist action movies out there. Has anyone heard of others?

A lot of older buildings are “Faraday cages” which interfere with electromagnetism, including the radio waves required for cell phone service. Many 20th century architects designed Faraday cages without even knowing they were a thing.

A Russian hacker who claims to have worked for a Kremlin-backed troll farm during the US election said that part of their on-the-job training consisted of watching House of Cards - partly to brush up their colloquial English skills, and partly to psych them up to combat the “decadent” West.

You were probably in Marin County. There are some beautiful but isolated areas in the west and north of the county, where there are more dairy cows than people. It would get pretty lonely and dark after sundown.

De-starring is a known Kinja glitch which will be fixed by Univision’s IT drones on approximately the 32nd of never. Don’t worry when it happens, you are not really removing any real stars, it only looks that way to you. When it happens to me (almost daily!) I find that simply reloading the page in my browser fixes it.

Don’t forget about the Saucer People.
