To play and win for country means more to him. Especially for a guy who did not grow up in mainland Portugal.

That’s love. Reading Sir Alex’s book, you know he loved Ronaldo and Ronaldo loved ManU. He left because he wanted to be closer to home.
I learn towards Ronaldo because he’s done it in two leagues and has clearly carried his team with less talent than Argentina. Also, Messi has been blessed to be on a team with his schoolmates. He’s had the added benefit of built in chemistry. Ronaldo hasn’t.
Hot, but true take. I pay due respect to Messi’s talents as a footballer, but in the “Messi v. Ronaldo” debate, I’ve lean toward Ronaldo. Messi strikes me as a guy who has crafted a better public persona, but is just as much of a cock as Ronaldo. But Messi's almost petulant response to Argentina’s Copa loss says tons…
Portugal has had one of the best pipelines of talent for years. This is long overdue and a complete shame that Ronaldo only played 24 minutes. But, it is a special aspect of this sport that those 24 minutes meant something...and his role after he left could mean so much.
Feel the love, baby, feel the love. SAF greets Ronaldo post match.
My favourite Coach Ronaldo was when he took a page from Fergie’s playbook
If Giroud had missed the header the Griezmann did, we would have never heard the end of it.
I think a truer sign of his character is that he didn’t resign from the national team and then dutifully paid his taxes.
It’s incredible really, Ronaldo wins the Euro trophy in his first game as Portugal’s manager.
