My uncle held onto and restored two of these, and sold them for a pretty quid in the mid aughts... pretty cool buggies, actually.

VW has Navistar’s IH bag of tricks... they could build a small 2 door Scout 800, a larger 2 door Scout II and have 4 door “Traveller” versions of both. Partner with a solar and RV trailer company to reinvent the “Tread Lightly”, outdoorsy ideal, make them BEV with a small onboard generator for extended forays into the

VW could dive deep into it’s Navistar Bag of Holding and come out with International Harvester... A new Small two door Scout 800, a larger two door Scout II, and a 4 door behemoth dubbed the Travelall or Traveler.

My Scout is now street legal, so I broke it in driving Sonoma County coastal hills... Not really related to today’s Morning Shift, besides the fact that for the past year and a half I’d browse this Feature before putting on shop clothes and going out to my driveway to tear down, rewire, replumb, de-corrode, repaint,

-Chuckles Heartily in International Scout.

I put heated seats in my 68 Scout... Most modern comforts can be retrofitted Jalop-Style.

The modern day equivalent is that horrible goddamn ventriloquist with the (what is it, like 8 now?) shitty puppets that stopped being funny in 1991... So glad I can’t recall his name, but he keeps popping up in media throughout my life...

Dad served for 24 years, so I’m absolutely familiar and comfortable with firearms in general... I have one for home protection, and that reason only.

Wow.  Stay classy, Jalop.

Try being a “Tread Lightly” 4x4 enthusiast who espouses gun culture and votes Democrat (Aside from my Jesse Ventura voting spree)...

Yeh...When we expanded the solar on our home & opted for a battery unit (there are crazy incentives in our county) I told the salesman we’d like to use anything other than tesla for storage, etc. Turns out the units we opted for are much more adaptable and expandable than He-Lon’s.

There was one in the Bay Area for sale last year... Nowhere near this condition. I thought it was a Misspelled Taurus until I saw the car and read up on it.

Hot Take:  Every SUV should have a 2 door option.

Show me on this doll where they hurt you in the feels...

...I’ve got a half dozen of these as 4" decals, one on the back of my Scout... great design, imo.

Greenbush, MN. Dad tossed the keys to the IHC Scout Terra to my brother (7th grade), pointed to the flat, dry 45 acre field next to the house, and told him to teach me to drive... as we already had a couple mini-bikes, I know how to change gears, just without a physical clutch.

Living in N. California I get to see virtually unmolested Volvo’s, Merc’s, and other vintage low-beltline, unaerodynamic bricks out in the wild, often in fun stock colors. They stand out in my vision on the road really well, and are easy to spot among the Beige, Black, and White unidentifiable used bars of soap

“PEAR PIMPLES FOR HAIRY FISHNUTS?!” is what I heard...

I dunno... the reasons I’ve been at a dealership long enough to select and brew a cup, it’s cost at least $100 to get back out the door. Granted, if you were there to browse it’s a cheap cup, but then (shudder) salesperson interaction is usually payment enough.
