Yeah, I did some back of the napkin math and this study doesn’t make any sense at all. 5.8 grams/kilometer is a ridiculous number. A typical set of tires should last 50,000 km or 30,000 mi, which according to this study, will release 290 kg (640 lbs) of particulates.  That’s pretty impressive for 80-100 lbs of tires

I watch his videos sometimes, because I do enjoy finding out about the oddball “quirks and features” (TM) (cant stand that he has to call it that every time though). He was a really funny and entertaining writer. Shame he’s given it up for video, since his voice and delivery are pretty annoying, but we all know what

Sounds like the 2000s era Town Car I saw yesterday at Cars and Coffee, but it had a Coyote 5.0 under the hood.  Don’t know if it had any other go-fast parts, but it had to be surprisingly fast.  Unfortunately, it was painted flat black, so not as sleeper as it could be.

Every time I saw it, it just seemed like a soap opera for bitchy men. A bunch of dumbasses standing around arguing for 30 minutes every episode. It’s unwatchable.

That’s not true at all. Jalopnik has posted plenty of articles that also praise the impressive mechanical and electrical engineering in Tesla’s cars. They have had articles talking about Consumer Reports giving Tesla high marks. But they have also written articles that rightly call out the childish, diva-like behavior

For sure. But how do you improve by only 0.4 mpg?

Torch hasn’t ever suggested that he hates Tesla, but he is very interested in self-driving technology (he even wrote a whole book on it), and has made a very consistent stand that he feels level 2 autonomy is a very dangerous middle ground where people put too much faith in systems that aren’t as capable as they think

hmm, those are pretty cool. I’ve been looking for some amber driving lights for my Volvo Amazon, hoping to find some that have classic looks plus modern LED lighting, but haven’t had much luck yet. May have to go this route.

Damn, I remember that story.  It was a good one. I think the dude had an Audi?

You should really use a detergent made for cold washing. The vast majority of energy that goes into washing a load of laundry is in heating up the hot water. I also learned an incredible figure in this podcast: In the US and Canada, 25 Billion loads of laundry are washed every year. I even used to work in the

Hmm, I find Heinz to taste less sweet than most other brands. Interestingly, in Canada Heinz is noticeably sweeter than the US formulation.

I noticed the commenter that was quoted called it both Saran Wrap and Cling Wrap, which are 2 completely different brands, of which only 1 of them actually works. I agree that Saran Wrap sucks, and doesn’t cling to anything anymore. Interesting to find out why.

I’m sure that the vast majority of the time, the people weren’t looking funny at the car at all, but the agents simply made that claim to justify pulling over someone brown. The only way that claim could be denied is if they had a dashcam running in their car to prove that they didn’t look “suspicious” when they drove

Having custom plastic pieces molded is expensive.  Why go to all that design and expense for a small production run when something that already exists and meets regulatory requirements is available?

Same here, though I sling it from my porch, so it sort of sprays across a pretty wide area.

Well, I pulled the engine on my 240SX 7 years ago to paint the engine bay and do various clean up stuff....and it’s still not back on the road.

My ‘97 Expedition has this alert, which on mine comes on every time I use it because the sensor has failed (I assume) and I haven’t bothered to fix it.

My guess is that it is a larger bore than the original master cylinder.  Because his new brakes have larger pistons, if he didn’t change the master cylinder, it would take longer pedal travel to move each piston the same distance (have to move more fluid to fill the larger piston).

The point of the comment is to highlight how Covid has affected workers differently. White collar workers have generally kept their jobs, often able to work from home and minimize exposure, and as a group have seen wages/wealth actually increase during the pandemic. Blue collar workers don’t have the luxury of

Yeah, it’s terrible. And the ungainly, unrefined fender bulges keep giving me a Jeep Patriot vibe, which is not something BMW designers should be aspiring too. I think the wheels are affecting that as well because they look like cheap steelies. The whole front end looks weirdly pinched/puckered, the wheel/tire combo
