Solid advice and certainly advice I’ve heard more than once. :)

I feel like all of the people who keep commenting on these articles that there are easier ways to get one of these are missing the point. It would make a spectacularly uninteresting story to just go to a reputable importer and buy a car. Barely any different from going to a dealer to buy a regular car. Nobody wants to

Well that’s clever.

I was swindled on my Beat purchase, just raked over the stupid coals. I bought it at an auction adjacent the Amelia Island Concours back in 2018. They seemed like a legit company but we arrived late and were unable to do a PPI, so I bid and won at a seemingly cheap $6000.

Upon delivery I found forgotten documents in

I wouldn’t call BaT a reputable site. It’s just another auction site. They don’t check the cars over or inspect them, so it’s a gamble whether the car you are bidding on is legit. I helped investigate a WRX STI that ended up being a repo auction car that was prior gutted. The seller was not honest about the car and

Curious as to how much is saved by going this route vs a American imported with these cars in stock like Japanese Classics, Top Rank, etc.

There are worse cars for sale on Buffalo craigslist right now.

Nice Price.

The Top Gear Botswana Special aired on BBC Two in November 2007

It’s aged better than Clarkson.

Ah, the good old days when Top Gear was actually funny.

I am surprised at all of the auto enthusiasts commenting here that have no idea who Rich is, (dude has nearly 1 million subs.) If you knew who he was, you’d get this a bit better. The dude has rebuilt more Teslas (and other EVs) that were totaled than probably anyone on the planet. Him rebuilding another Tesla back to

The car was totaled sitting in a junkyard not moving under it’s own power, so I’d say he made it faster. If you look in to Rich you’ll realize that he’s rebuilt and worked more on Teslas than about any person on earth. (As well as other EVs.)

Africa is not a country. I think you meant to say that the Polo is the best selling car in South Africa? A small part of a huge continent in which the VW Polo is hardly a drop in the bucket of usage.

I used to work for the Toyota dealership here in Costa Rica and I was there when the very first Fortuner arrived. That was around 2005 or 2006.

Being someone who has actually been around the world a bit, I think the main reason the Fortuner isn’t sold here is obvious: The United States is mostly paved roads.

I remember trying to get my hands on a Land Cruiser Prado rental when I went to Peru 12 years ago for an expedition down the Panamericana Sur from Lima to the Paracas Nature Reserve. I wound up getting a Hyundai Tuscon instead which, while it had no where near the offroad capabilities of the Prado, still held its own

I’m guessing that our friend the Hater doesn’t know Jalopnik exists but I like to imagine him incorporating all this into his (flat)world view... now let me get back to that autofellatio.

Holy shit, have you seen what the used Walkman prices are now? It’s just insane...lol

it is! Thanks! It looks pretty good for not having spent a single day in a garage and spending it’s first 20 years in a rust belt province.

Every SR-71 article that gets posted here gives me goosebumps. Not only are they all incredibly well written, they are so damn interesting as well. Thanks Tyler, and thanks Mr. Thomas for sharing!
