Let’s not forget how the Cherokee nation has worked to cull the tribal rolls of descendants of slaves the Cherokee owned prior to the Civil War. The Nation has vested economic and political interests in controlling tribal membership, and that’s their right, but it doesn’t make them RIGHT.
