Yeah but I'm thinking even lower level. When we first get introduced to Coulson in Iron Man he doesn't appear to be anywhere near Fury in the chain of command (or maybe that's just the impression I got).

I could also see a character like this filling a Coulson role now that he's a full time resurrected spy/director of SHIELD… man that character ended up way different than how he was originally introduced.

Yeah Michael J. Fox woulda been perfect back in the day. I also heard his sarcasm was partially based on Matthew Perry but I could never imagine him in the role.
