wrong... The one you have pictured is the only factory e39 M5 wagon in existence and was built as a one off for Gerhard Richter (yes like the artist), the then head of BMW M division. I suppose it did come in that configuration but not exactly “just not your side of the pond.”

Get the e39 5 series. I’ve owned one for two years now and it’s been nothing but excellent. It’s not too flashy and non car people usually have very little to say about the car - but it does get the odd thumbs up from fellow bimmer drivers. I haven’t had any major issues (at 275,000km) and it’s only been to a shop…
