Alexandra Petri had the best line ever about Christie in WashPo today...she said he looked like “someone who gazed into the abyss, and the abyss gazed back, and then he endorsed the abyss.”

This isn’t exactly Bert Williams here. This is not somebody playing up stereotypes at the expense of an entire race for the amusement of white people. Don’t even try to trivialize the disgusting vileness of blackface by suggesting a woman of color using makeup the way plenty of actors from all parts of the world use…
People will find anything to complain about. Anything.
What’s next, we’re going to find out those are costumes and not really their own clothes? Oh, horror.
“The mo$t important thing i$ that cr€ativity or quality of p€rformance $hould never be judged on the ba$i$ of color, or €thnicity, or physical likene$$,” said the objective distributor without a hint of cynicism.
From the attached article. I wouldn’t mind if Peskind and his friends were named and shamed.
That makes it even worse. So they were playing this and chortling over it so loudly and obviously that it made the server miserable and the supervisor had to be called in to get them to stop. I bet the server is a cute young girl. These people are barbarians.
I was reading a legal expert interview at SI.com and he said the same thing. By bringing it to trial, they’re getting exposed for whatever culpability they had in this incident, and even worse, the “you got more famous after you were psychologically violated” defense is a massive PR hit that is self-inflicted. And as…
The nerve of some peephole...
I want to know how this has become a Black Issue and not a People of Color Issue. I thought the problem was that all the nominees were white, not that none of them were black.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is made up of less than 5, 800 members. Yet, the entire country seems to be blamed for their actions. Obviously, our country has a long, long way to go towards any kind of equality. It’s disgusting how far we have to go. I’m just tired of pretending Hollywood represents…
Chris Rock is incredibly funny. He’s also had a long history of telling jokes that are racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. And now? He’s showing a lot of cracks, in that he’s kind of dumb.
thank you for explaining exactly how I feel. I used to want to participate in the conversation and over the last few years have grown quieter and quieter about the subject not because I don’t care, am not paying attention, or don’t want to help - but because every option is apparently wrong.
I feel like i spend about half the time being told I need to participate in the conversation, and about half the time being told “shut up and listen//you’re whitesplaining every time you talk//check your privilege//you can’t talk about this because you’ve never experienced//etc//etc//etc”
They brought out “accountants” i.e two asian kids and a jewish kid and there was a joke about the Asians being good at math, and then one about child labour in Asian countries. Then Sacha Baron Cohen came on and made a Asians have Small Penises joke. Those were literally the only two times Asians were even mentioned.
Can we get a condensed clip of Asian people reacting to the jokes at the Oscars as well?
I’m just glad white and black people could finally come together over mocking Asian people.
