SL looks fantastic today if you have a rig that can run it on full, there has been a lot of new features added to the platform that make it really good to work with and explore.

It is pretty clear that while its community is smaller than it used to be, the people on SL that are still there are a devoted fanbase who

Oh look its...Mega Man Begins...I mean, yeah...this was clearly inspired by Batman Begins (specially the scene where Batman assaults Scarecrow's hideout and the docks).

It was ok

Im not getting uptight about it, Im just trying to explain because calling it a "game" in the traditional sense limits what it can do, which is more than what a normal "game" would do.

People typically call it a "game" because of its use of 3D avatars and environments, I actually made that mistake early on when I

Yes, ever heard of "the game of life" ?

"it's like the Sims"

Far, very far from it, its not even close to what the Sims is.

Ill explain:

In the Sims, your goal is to live through the life of your Sim, have them shower, get a job, visit friends, have kids. You are playing mostly as an outsider, watching and directing the Sims under your care and watching how that affects their emotions and life.

Your end goal in the Sims is to watch them grow

As someone who grew up with WarCraft 1, 2 and 3 I think it would be wonderful to return to its RTS roots, thats where WarCraft started and thats where it should always be.

That is not to say that WoW hasn't done good things, but in my opinion it expanded so much in the world and lore that I think making an RTS out of

Thanks for your positive comment, Ive got to tell you that Ive also been on SL for 7 years and its just downright sad how positive things like this are never mentioned on articles from sites like Kotaku.

$415,000 is a lot of money for a positive charity, shame that instead of letting people know how active and positive

Yes (SL isn't a game technically speaking, its a simulator).

When you kill someone you just teleport them to their home location, there is no permanent death because again, its not a game.

Still kicking Ive been a resident there for 7 years.

Can you please direct me to a platform that actually does all the things Second Life does? no?

Then Ill stay with SL, because no other platform does it.

Exactly, its not Second Life, its the people.

Ive been on a good amount of games where there is little to no sexual content present and people will always find ways to suggest some sexual activity.

For example:

Gears of War 3

As weird as it sounds, when your leader would get captured in multiplayer people would simulate

Or you know Patricia...you could also expose some of the other ways Second Life promotes positive things...or guess not, I guess whatever gets more views and causes more controversy.

Ive been on Second Life for 7 years, I know more about it that most people on this forum and its just insane how narrow minded most

So whats the different angle exactly then?

I defend it because Ive seen its positive aspects and I defend the idea of freedom of expression and creativity.

Second Life itself isn't at fault for what people really want to express themselves, its the restrictions we have in reality that lead people to find spaces they can escape to and do exactly that, express

Now playing

You'rewelcome, if you really want a more positive and in depth look at what SL is and how people use it, you can follow this video series on YouTube called "The Drax Files"

It showcases different people using SL in different ways and a totally opposite look to what this very hateful and negative article wants to show,

Yes but that is not the fault of the platform or why it was made for.

Second Life clearly started with the idea of an open, user created environment with little restrictions to its users. The users have driven SL all these years, what you see in-world these days is mostly made by its residents.

It is very impressive and

Its strange to me how Kotaku operates, they seem to have a double standard to a lot of things specially when it benefits them.

Chris took the time to search YouTube for a trolling video in Second Life, but apparently never took the time to research the positive aspects of the platform.

Thats modern journalism, bent on

Second Life?

I would say people are weird, the platform is nothing without the people on it so of course you can expect weird people doing weird things when they are in a free environment where they can express themselves however they wish and with very few or no consequences.

It says more about humans than it does

Why would there be? so you want a free platform that people can run freely?

Where do you think Linden Labs would make a profit out of it exactly?

How familiar are you with SL?

It seems to me you have very little experience with it, whichever it may be.
