I think if they made the Doctor a woman people would say they're fine with it, but then the character would come under tons of extra criticism and she'd be the most hated Doctor ever, even though no one would ever admit it's because she's a woman.

I think a young foppish black Doctor (which is almost certainly how they would have gone if they'd decided to make him not a white guy) would be much less of departure than Capaldi will be.

Hopefully they'll have Capaldi treat her catch-phrasey obnoxiousness with the withering contempt it deserves.

People on this site only know one black guy and one British guy and it's the same guy, so he gets suggested for a lot of parts.
