i would argue ralph despite a disgusting, horrible person, may be a better person than tony, NOT for his behavior…but in that in his last episode, he actually begins to look at the consequences of his actions and tries to redeem himself. tony would never look at his behavior, generally being clueless about how his

Don't Stop Believin is awesome, mostly because it's so goddamn sincere, as is Faithfully, which is also awesome. Journey was weird because they were this cynical concept of this dumb fucking stadium rock band, but their best songs were painfully honest and powerful cause they kind of meant it when Steve Perry sang

one of the themes
i always thought was actually prevalent, and which you sort of touch on is that tony is almost always the competent one in his mob life; paulie, christopher, bobby and the others constantly make mistakes and fuck up, creating these idiotic situations that Tony has to solve because their neuroses

i work at a grocery store, and hearing prince's take me with u, such a kick-ass deep cut from purple rain, was fun as shit.

RIP Pekar
Even when I lost interest in comics, I still treasure his work. Brilliant writer.

melfi is absolutely right to give up his therapy, in that tony will never allow himself to change, and hes a fucking hideous monster of a human being, but he is capable of great love and warmth along with the other numerous, monumental flaws. sociopaths are essentially inhuman, but soprano is anything but. id argue

to be perfectly honest, if any kid has ever deserved to beaten a little, its AJ. Carm coddled that little shit way too much.

technically speaking, doesnt a sociopath have no real emotions or compassion? tony may be an evil, selfish bastard, but hes not a sociopath.

shut the fuck up, play.

I agree that the Sopranos got away from it's original conceit in the last few seasons, which was a bummer, cause i thought the therapy scenes were the best parts half the time. still, great show all throughout

Adventureland
Adventureland, a movie about alt-kids and fuck ups who hate where they grew up and desperately search for a better life in their music and each other hit me HARD. What a beautiful movie.

we could see it as a 2-parter, considering how much crap happens in both episodes. still, i feel like kennedy and nixon is much more of a "traditional" finale of shows; it's both dramatic and huge events happen that change the course of the show.

mad men
gotta disagree about mad men, the first season's finale had less happening than the penultimate, where pete blackmails don over dick whitman, bert dismisses the info, and don and rachel broke up. still, the show has resisted the pattern the other seasons (especially season 3, whoo!)

i think that the guys never mention goodfellas as a point; the godfather is bloody, but very romantic and sacred about "the life". goodfellas is romantic too, but ultimately very realistic and brutal about how in the end, all you get for a life of evil is a crappy house and a shitty life. mobsters wouldn't like that,

Probably the only thing separating the two is that Tony would never attempt to murder his children, but its still a thin line.

chase is kind of a dick, but he was right that violence was not the point of the show, it was the tension and emotion in said violence. the motivations and emotions behind it were more interesting than seeing a guy dumped in a river.

i gotta say, its pretty frustrating that they love the thermals (who indeed are awesome) but have almost never covered against me, not even in the awesome period they had. for gods sake, it's all underground shit, and thats whats important.

Damn it, Edith, i can't build you your candy house!

chicago
i thought he was the best thing in chicago, reilly made amos pretty heartbreaking, both in the reaction when he realized he was not going to have a baby, and "mr cellophane"; a perfectly nice, dumb guy fucked over by the people around him. hes also great in boogie nights, step brothers, some other flick i

im just curious, what is the hipster feeling towards punk rock? seems like pitchfork has declared punk dead in several reviews, but ironically loves bands who in any world are punk, like titus andronicus, wavves, and early yeah yeah yeahs
