Advent Rising was the first of a planned trilogy, with a story by Orson Scott Card I believe. Supposedly the story and score was great, but the controls were shit on toast. This was only a few years into the last generation, and it was 360 exclusive.
I mostly concur with your points, with the exception of WW, which imo has the best execution of story and character which balances out the lack of dungeons and shallowness of the Ocean.

I lost a good six months of my life last year to Civ 5. I would come home from work, fire it up and lay in bed clicking away, building wonders and shit-talking Genghis Khan. On the weekends it was Epic games and nuking Gandhi. I never played multiplayer, and barely left the house other than for work, food or weed.
