I've noticed Awaken My Love is polarizing among critics and fans of him, with some liking his new sound and some hating it.

Wouldn't go that far, but as someone who never listened to them until this one came out, I thought it was pretty good.
It seems to be they're highlighting good albums they didn't review until now.
It's not his best work, but I think it deserves to be nominated in the best album list for 2016.
That's why he kept updating the album after he released it and now "Saint Pablo" is part of the album as well as "she went to school to be a real estate agent." ;)

I have a feeling if he was just releasing music now, he probably would use his real name.
Yeah, that was his trademark. That and harmonizing with himself to great effect.
Good review. Really enjoyed this album and I think it's his best work yet. I'm one of those people who thinks he's a decent rapper but a way better singer, so when I heard this album was gonna be more soul/R&B, I was happy. "Redbone" is my favorite track on here and it's because of that Prince-influence. I'd like…
You're not alone.

"No, Ike is still president dammit!"
After he passed, I really enjoyed reading stories of Prince doing little things like that to cheer someone up.
I remember the story Talib Kweli relayed after Prince died that about 10 years ago, there was a party at a roller rink and after a while Prince had security kick out the guys but the women were allowed to stay. After that, they gathered around and had a Bible study.
Q1 of 2017 apparently.
