@alskaren

I like this idea. I would go a step further and say that there is something on the island that humans can accomplish; UnLocke doesn't believe it is possible and is antagonistic to humanity, Jacob has hope that humans can progress to achieve it and is optimistic.

Congratulations to everyone above who may either be as brilliant as McSweeneys or a plagiarist.

Uh oh. This alternate universe had better not be used gratuitously to explain random things that we've been led to believe are relevant and tied together.

Interesting thought that the two are not opposed but just intervening in humanity for different reasons. Seems plausible but why then does the man in black want to kill Jacob so badly?

Jacob and MIB can both appear as smoke monsters. Jacob incorrectly trusted Locke.

Walt is a sort of sage in the Lost story. I am still not certain who is good and who is not.

Also, the pilot could have been evil for all we know.

I think there will be some course correcting just like when Charlie was going to die but evaded it a few times with Desmond's help.

They don't care for most things.

I actually took Jacob's comment to refer to Ben. Both work but why couldn't he be referring to Ben, who did after all kill him.

I'm not saying they're the same smoke monster. I'm saying throughout the show the smoke monster has either been a Jacob smoke monster or an MIB smoke monster. Hence differing actions by the monster and differing reactions from people (Locke) to the monster.

Hallelujah
Hallelujah performed by Jeff Buckley transcends the original.

Come on people. Faraday has a larger role to play.

This ties in with my other theory which is that both Jacob and MIB have the power to become smoke monsters and inhabit bodies. This explains the dichotomy we see in the smoke monster's behavior.

Two Locke bodies from the two parallel realities
We've seen two Lockes. I had presumed that the existent of two bodies was a result of a time travel paradox, but what if the existence of the two bodies we've already seen will actually be a result of the two parallel realities crossing each other.

Mark my words!!!

Locke saying "Love Me" FTW

But when are they doing this hanging out?

I think it's quite possible that both Jacob and MIB can take the form of smoke monsters. Hence sometimes the smoke monster is violent and other times benevolent. Jacob could have led them to the caves.
