Here is something from a latter day episode (a clip show, nonetheless!) that sums up how I feel about the show:

No, but the "SIMPSONS SUCK FUCK YOU GUYS" schtick is getting really, really, really old. As is the "YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF YOU THINK TIM AND ERIC ARE FUNNY YOU GUYS" schtick.

Grimes was kind of an asshole though. Yeah, humble beginnings and all that, but instead of just moving on with his life and not getting mad at Homer, he got so mad at Homer that he killed himself. He didn't really have a lot of redeeming qualities, imo, so the Brazil comparison is inapt.
