I've been trying pretty hard and I truly cannot remember when Nigel was rude to Cyrus.  Rather I thought he's been embarrassingly kind and paternal (and patronizing) to a stand-up guy who could have truly used and might have even welcomed some constructive criticism in the midst of all this adoration.

Completely agree about Nigel "trying to right the wrong".  I also agree that it was memorably awkward…but he does this all the time and I guess that's the executive producer's right.
