For some reason his non-PT material just doesn't resonate with me. It's all good, of course, just… I have no desire to re-listen to any of it. Like I'm listening to Blackfield on Spotify now and it's.. nice. I'm sure I felt that way the first time I listened to it. But that's about it.

The Firth of Fifth is pretty much the epitome of prog rock.

I like that album too but let's be fair, how much press time can you expect for an instrumental concept album based on an Italian novella about a child, a freak and a goose?

Elsewhere I mentioned seeing Magma close out a prog festival.
Well The Flower Kings played before them- this was when they put out Unfold the Future- and they played this half-hour long "song" called The Truth Will Set You Free, and they had some extra percussion guy. Holy crap did they tear the place down, be far the…

I'm a huge Rush and prog fan but Hemispheres is a record I have trouble getting into (and I know it by heart at this point). Ged's voice is just TOO high, and I normally do like his voice. And the lyrics are just their worst. The jump from that to PW is shocking, almost.

Which reminds me of a common music-nerd argument I've seen come up, so I'll bring it up here:

I think a lot of bands, especially during the LP golden age of the 70s, saw the album as the place to be "serious," which gave them as people an unfair reputation for being "humorless." Rush being the perfect example- see them live and they are a joy.

It's an uneven record- only their second, and their first with that lineup (Collins, Hackett had just joined).
Foxtrot is where they hit their stride.
