Yeah I agree, musically, and about how it's their determination that makes them so likable.

When I think about this series, the good and the bad, the memorable characters and moments and the god-awful parts (of which I believe there are many), Bereil doesn't even enter my brain, even though

Yeah I was gonna say that.  TOS stands alone, both because it's so much older and also because it is the Original freakin' Series.

Maybe your interpretation is better and certainly more interesting but mine is that he is exactly what he appears- an asshole with superpowers.

Vedek Ratchet makes my balls shrivel up inside my fear-hole.  Casting her was a stroke of genius and I'm stunned that she's only had the two good roles in her life.

@Eucheung:disqus : the idea that it's a good sign that both the left and right are mad at him is a common one I hear in political punditry but it's silly, IMO.  Judge a decision or argument on its own merits, not by bouncing off the perceived opinions of others.

I win every verbal argument by turning into Sisko from that courtroom scene with the Klingon.

But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?

The cat replaced Ron Paul in the debate at the end.
Cue the silly Paul supporter who will claim this is part of the establishment media conspiracy to shut him out of politics.

Comedy is also usually "left-leaning"- or at least good comedy- because it mocks authority, and conservatives revere authority over justice or compassion, while liberals are the opposite.

That was a particularly brutal bit of violence, even for this show.

The dude's name is actually "Ironside?"  Well… of course he's gonna be bad-ass.  That's like, the law.

Yeah, pretty much the same here.  But also true in general.  I served my time as a hardcore prog nerd; now it's like- get to the point already, musicians.

While I have lost interest in their music a long time ago, I have not lost interest in their song and album titles.

Credit to the actress playing Shirley playing Oprah- while that was indeed the "obvious" choice of impression because there aren't a lot of fat black women celebrities, that wouldn't guarantee a funny impression but she killed it during her award presentation.

@avclub-b31df16a88ce00fed951f24b46e08649:disqus, is that the Cardassian engineer played by Tracy Scoggins, aka Captain Elizabeth Lockley from Babylon 5?  Because if I'm getting my Cardassians not mixed up- good god, yes, all over that.

There is some live Volta material out there so you can check it out so you don't have to wonder about what they do live.
But I'm guessing that since your opinion of the band seems to be identical to mine (love the description "problematic but ultimately rewarding on their albums"- so true!) your suspicions are right

We New Yorkers are spoiled, it's true.  That really hit home to me when a dude came from Russia was telling me what a big deal it was for him when Deep Purple came to Russia- in like, the 90s.  NYers would laugh at seeing some over-the-hill 70s rock group but of course it's special for Russia.

Metal, in general.  I just feel like I'm too old to go to a metal show now.  It's… well, too loud.
I don't even love that much metal these days but if I skipped on the opportunity to see my two favorite current groups together- Opeth and Mastodon- then my headbanging/moshing days are behind me.

Best joke: the "Webster's Dictionary defines marriage as…" bit.  I started loling as soon as Jeff started saying that and literally applauded when Annie took him to task for it.  Had to rewind that scene to hear it all properly.
