It looks very nice in 35mm at the Ritz Five, but I agree that it would have been nice if it was in 70mm around here. Quick tangent: though the crowd at the Ritz is usually fairly sharp, the 7:15 crowd on Friday had a lot of ringing phones, people walking in and out and a couple of old people walking out on it because…

The name of Paquin's character was Lisa, not Margaret, which I point out not to be anal, but to ask why the film was called Margaret. I know it took its name from a Manley poem, but what greater relevance does it have to the film?

Yet Broderick's job as a teacher in a discussion-based class is to consider or at least allow his class to state their thoughts on the material. Though the kid was driving the class off topic, Broderick could just say, "Ok, that's an interesting point, but we need to move on right now," instead of shutting him down…

Yeah, Lonergan has discussion-based private school classes down to a tee in this movie, particularly this scene, and the ones where Lisa has shouting matches with an Arab girl about Israel.

I don't know how good of a performer he is, but he would seriously be a great Weekend Update writer.

Anyway, I'll submit to you on the shah, since you seem much more informed and knowledgeable than I on the topic.…

Not that Phoenix and Hoffman don't deserve the praise they are receiving (they wholeheartedly do), but I think Adams' performance is getting a bit overlooked, because it was a great one that she deserves the Oscar for, even if I was never quite sure what her character's motivations were.

Its hypnotic and entrancing nature was one of the defining aspects of this great film for me. When it was over and its spell was lifted, the first thing I told my friend who I saw it with was that I felt like it had put me under the same kind of hypnosis that Dodd was putting on various people throughout the film.

In Synecdoche, New York, where Hazel is telling him to get over Catherine Keener, causing him to argue that she's only been gone for a week, where Hazel responds: "Caden, she's been gone for a year." After she tells him that, he gets this great look on the face that simply says: "What the fuck happened to all of that…
