An interesting take, although I believe that is different from the show Fuller has envisioned.  I don't think the procedural elements are necessarily forced onto show by network constraints.  Eventually they become lighter, while the psychological exploration of the characters start coming into greater focus.

If the plot points are eliminated and the scenes dwelt upon, we are essentially left with a museum or arthouse exhibit that celebrates the human body, manipulated into novel forms.  Which I approve.
