I feel the same about not expecting to care that much about the characters. This was below my minimum threshold of caring that has to be met for the experience not to become boring/grating/aimless, though, and I wasn't looking for Shakespearean complexity or emotional drama.
Like the Star Wars series, the original was more entertaining.
Yeah, I felt like Star Trek Into Darkness was a string of action sequences. At first they were exhilarating, but eventually the whole thing clots together into a general feeling of "Action! When I am assessing breasts, as often I do, "Pendulous?" is first on my checklist and then "Friendly?" is next, and then when both criteria are met, I start zooming around like an airplane and making comic-book onomatopoeiae because I don't know how to deal with breast assessment success.
