I wonder if parents with good taste maybe worry about this kind of thing too much. If we just expose our kids to good music while we're listening to it, they'll gravitate to the stuff they like and use that as springboards to other interesting discoveries.

When I was in 8th Grade ca. 1990 I went through a phase where I was obsessed with Jimmy Buffett's music. I have no idea why I liked it and once I stopped listening, I went cold turkey and got into things like Fugazi and The Clash. No wonder I've blacked out most of middle school from my memory.
