Plenty of foreshadowing one this one. At least two times where Batman emphasizes "Batman can be ANYBODY." Then when Batman rescues him at the end, and suggests he should wear a mask. It was a bit like V for Vendetta's ending (book, not movie). I loved it.

In fact, the only thing I didn't enjoy was that I always felt that Dini's stories had to play second fiddle to Morrison's run, of which I'm not a fan. I remember there were romantic subplots with Zatanna and Catwoman that I liked, but couldn't enjoy fully just because I knew he wasn't writing the "main" book.

I was even a fan of the Hush story that ended the run. Maybe I just admired that he was making a noble attempt to salvage a lame character from a famous story, and I thought he imagined to make Hush at least mildly interesting.

Are there any other fans of his Marvel "Color" books?

Killing Joke and Long Halloween would both be great Gateway books, especially considering how they influenced the Dark Knight in their depictions of Joker and Harvey Dent. Long Halloween just stands out to me in particular because I can't get enough of the Batman / Gordon / Dent trio.

I know it doesn't really affect the storytelling, but I do find it annoying when they switch back-and-forth between renumbering and original numbering. Brubaker's Captain America is a good example of this. It started out with the Marvel Knights numbering, jumped back to the original numbering with #500, and then

I actually liked the JMS run when it was drawn by Romita, and thought it took a nose-dive immediately after he left. (I think the first post-Romita story is Sins Past! Good God!)

Favorite meta joke in the series: Minkus shows up again in the high school graduation episode, saying that he was just on the other end of the hall where the main characters never go. At one point he exits towards that end of the hall and says, "Hey! Mr. Turner!"
