Interesting thesis but the weak point is that early Jim Carrey had a goofy naivete that he subverted and played off of - he could be nebbish, even wholesome-looking. So, I'm not sure Tim Curry, as brilliant as he is/was, would work in The Mask and he definitely would not work in The Truman Show.
