how's about all those gorgeous 70s LPs?

didn't richard visit locke as a boy and present him with an assortment of objects? from which locke chose a knife? am i remembering this entirely wrong, or was a compass one of the objects from which locke could choose?
if i am imagining things or completely mistaken, i'll accept that. hell, the LOST drinking game…
