Also if I were Amy I'd be worried that Figgis might make the connection between her and the lady-prisoner who was always asking his sister too many question.

I always thought it was supposed to refer to the world of Arbian Nights, the actual medieval work of literature, which had its share of medievelly-violence, and not to modern times. But it's also nice that they changed it when people complained.

"somehow finding a deserted hotel in the Pokonos"

::tries to work out some math via which current Tim Curry plays Criminologist and stock-footage Tim Curry plays Frank and there's some sort of resultant meta-humor and/or symbolism::

Yeah, we need to separate "foreign country with non-white majority" from "US minority groups." Japan has its own ginormous film/TV industry that can take care of itself.

Wow I totally didn't realize that I had implied that *I* was a potential new viewer which I now see that I totally did. I was just making fun of the randomness of the clip.

Potential New Viewer: Hmm, Game of Thrones, that show I've heard so much about. Maybe I'll watch one of these new promotional video clips and be wooed into watching the series.

I don't disagree that critical-thinking skills can be taught, just that employers expectations are a little off.

Ah, the good ol' critical-thinking skills. We won't mention that executive function doesn't fully mature until the mid-twenties, and that the best critical-thinking skills alone won't replace critical thinking skills + experience.

YES. Not to mention that they're making their future employees pay tens of thousands of dollars (or more) for their own training that the company expects to benefit from.

Agreed, and I'll remind us all of Eowyn's book quote because like everything else about her arc, it's better than the movie:

"You see, I'll be an actor pretending to be a barber who lures his victims to their doom by pretending to innocuously practice his trade who lures his victims to their doom by pretending to innocuously practice his trade."

::takes any flimsy excuse to post a Muppet Show video:: Hey look, two out of three!

Maybe substitute "important for people to learn about from reliable, non-exploitative sources" for "fascinating"? Which this show is… obviously not about.

an “unprecedented television experiment”

Yeah, my shipping days are long behind me (like, X-Files at its peak, 15+ years ago behind me), but I am 100% behind not prescribing how people should or shouldn't enjoy a show. I don't even care if people get too obsessed with shipping. I definitely come down on the side of "Let 15 year olds be obsessed with their TV

Well, I'm in higher education rather than business, so I can't cite any anecdotal evidence on the business front :) But I know plenty of women in my field with tenured positions in universities in Japan. Less than in America for my field? I don't know, because I have no hard numbers. But enough that I'm not sure

As much as I don't want to get involved in this conversation, as an American woman married to a Japanese man who has lived in both countries, I would say that the condition of women in each country is certainly different, but it would be difficult to rank one as "better" or "worse." Both are first world countries

Wait, wait "because aliens" is an option? Why did no one tell me this sooner? I am absolutely signing up for "because aliens."

Upvoted because you actually made the comment disappear by declaring it so.
