Also, after many years of living in blissful ignorance of what old people can be like, I finally got a good old fashioned "old people laughing at everything" experience when seeing Indignation. I haven't the foggiest idea why a cut from Logan Lerman passed out to him in a hospital bed is the pinnacle of hilarity, but…
The Firemen's Ball: A very funny comedy of idiocy and things going wrong that ends on such a moment of poignancy and sadness that it becomes hard to mistake that this whole movie's been Milos Forman's way of dealing with his complete nightmare of a country (even the running time suggests this; it's like he could only…
Ken Watanabe's character is actually the ghost of Naomi Watts' character
And Chris Doyle also shot Psycho, one of the more amusing cinematographer-film (purposeful, I believe) mismatches ("hey, let's get the maverick cinematographer known to do a lot of crazy improvising on the shot-for-shot remake of that classic movie!").
That movie is… pretty good. It's no Gerry, though.
Take one of your shoes off…
Sarah Paulson has joined Ocean's Eight as one of the eight. Someone hold me.
I just saw somebody in my Facebook group unironically post the clip from The Newsroom about rape. Their comment even ended with "Please watch this". I have no words.
Don't forget Finding Forrester.
Also, if Finding Forrester (which I actually think is genuinely pretty good) led to him having to bottom out and start over, I can only imagine what we'll get as a response to Van Sant's last three films, if he isn't totally resigned to this being his career now.
It's rather impressive that it sounds like Van Sant has made a film that's a combo more annoying statement on death than Restless and much worse take on "two men lost in an unforgiving environment" than Gerry. I don't want to suggest this steep decline is the result of Harris Savides dying, but I'll do so anyway.
Well, the score, the cinematography, and the production design are the only good parts. Newman, Emmanuel Lubezki, and Dante Ferretti were a dream team united for a complete piece of shit.
1. 12 Monkeys
2. Meet Joe Black and Legends of the Fall
3. Plan B
4. Rusty
Words fail me.
Brit Marling was right!
Man, Wikifeet is going through some serious shit right now.
I'm finding that people are apparently very offended by the existence of Harambe jokes. Huh.
49. Also, I loved Brooklyn but I have no earthly idea why Brooklyn apparently had this kind of effect on critics and not, say, Bridge of Spies.
