in a way, all this shows is just how out of touch terrestrial radio has become. they keep humping the same lousy setlists they've been humping for the last 20 years and most folks are fine with that.

what you outline is an altogether different phenomena — channel drift. this is where stations (TV *AND* radio) begin with a certain kind of programming and then just keep expanding their program base further and further until you hardly recognize the original intent. if you need TV examples, see syfy and TLC.
