Ah, yeah, I'd forgotten he was in that. Quite good in that and 'Green Room.' What a shame.

I've never seen it, although I do recall it's fairly well thought of (that 70's Texas singer-songwriter resurgence). Can't speak of the possible racism aspect, although, again, it's 1970s Texas (which isn't much different from 2016 Texas ).

I wondered if Copeland/IRS were involved with that; I do enjoy the first few Police records but, holy cow, was the fix in for them on so many levels. I guess it's actually a credit to Sting that he had the material to live up to it.
There definitely are stretches in the film of fairly dire, fake new wave type stuff

Besides Game 7 of the NBA finals, there is also the WWE Money in the Bank PPV, which should be pretty good, including the long-awaited 'dream match' between Cena and AJ Styles, which was actually never long-awaited, discussed or even really thought about until a couple of weeks ago, but, that's neither here nor there.

Didn't know that about Toyah and Fripp. That's funny for some reason. Also funny that she went from working with Jarman to, after a glance at her IMDB, doing voice work for children's cartoons. Well, better career than I've had, I guess.
I enjoy the film more than you may have, but I also can enjoy Numan's camp

Shocking lack of Allan Sherman on this list

He's the manager!

I'd guess that he was smart enough to want to do more interesting films, but as many others find, the audience he'd garnered did not care about his wishes, and just wanted more crap. He obliged, as all do.
I think most don't even realize he was in a Woody Allen movie in the 70s, when that meant something (although

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff still to be figured out as to what is going on. I think this is a case where he's just using the name 'ISIS' to use it, but fuck knows at this point.

Both excellent titles (particularly like 'Breaking In', it was also directed by Bill Forsyth, who made 'Gregory's Girl', one of my absolute favorite films). 'Boogie Nights' is an excellent film, and he was very good in it, but he wasn't the star, so I don't think of it as a 'Reynolds' film. I'm very pedantic!

True

Keep in mind that 'ISIS claiming responsibility' means literally nothing and, while some connection may eventually be made, they are willing to take 'credit' for any atrocity because they use it as a recruitment/badge of pride, even if there is no connection at all beyond ' crazed guy name dropped them in a call'.

No, just the same racists and crackpots that exist in literally every tract of land on the entire globe

'Urgh' is a lot of fun, completely datestamped of the era, but a reminder that even the most oddball attempts at being 'avant' still retained a high level of songcraft and tunefulness. It can be done, people!

Come back! Sign my butt please!

Good band, although it would be pretty cool to see the Eddy Current SR and King Gizzard as a replacement, so seems like a good trade off.
Whoops, sorry, LOL what a bunch of dumb names, who cares, etc.
I forgot where I was for a second.

While the argument is 'Deliverance' is Reynolds's best performance, 'Longest Yard', to me, is easily his best film. He was such a good comic actor, it was too bad he got so lazy and indifferent when 'Smokey' really took off.

Ah, at least there's some sort of reason. I always found the choice of that film to be really peculiar. Not that it's 'bad' or anything, but just seemed out of left field.

I appreciate your sentiments, but the vast majority of the audience who tunes in to, or even cares about, the Oscars has almost zero interest in learning about the history of film, or anything of any cultural import. It's just about 'stars' and what they are wearing, or those lame sketches.

I still need an explanation as to why they released 'The Rose'.
