That is great. Just got through reading 'Cohen on Cohen' (which is very worth it), and he talks about how Kristofferson wants the first three lines from "bird on a wire" on his tombstone. Quite the triangle- blow jobs, bobby mcgees, and birds on wires

Totally agree- he and tj miller really sell that half-lethargic, half-enlightened stoner role. I almost would've rathered the movie end with the two of them together ('just making candles') than have the tacked-on romantic bit.

I definitely got that impression as well. And Old Dost would be proud, i'd think, being a lover of pot and country music

Yeah, i have to say that hit me too like a ton of fucking bricks.
That said, I did find the Apatow advice (about screenwriting) to be good medicine, regardless of what you think of the source.

"This goes all the way to the top". Doesn't it ever just go to the middle? what about the near-bottom, or the far-lateral?

First Bieber now Kim Jong-un? Seth Rogen's going down in scale, if not belly.

For what it's worth, I didn't get that impression at all from (the half i've heard of) his YMIW appearance. Holmes seems very open and content to follow his lead.

I bought two Tim Minchin albums a while back and found him insufferable and preachy. Is he any different/better?? I thought his piano-playing was amazing, but the whole Dawkins-on-music was cringeworthy.

And the Ben Harper version of this is amazing too!

Was scared for a sec that was gonna read "nobody likes Dawes, ElDan". You dodged a bullet there, a beautiful and alluringly melodic bullet.

Watch out Andy- a yann tiersen video's gonna make great fodder for the next roast, ya know.
But really: so happy to see Yann Tiersen in the headlines here! Dick, not so much.

Braff and Josh Radnor should just go ahead and team up; they can pen and direct the Indiana Jones of feelingness.

Much as I love this song, I gotta use this opportunity to post my fave song from Captain Fantastic, "better off dead". Especially this kooky live version:

I think it was one of the Hobbits

MIght be the only one, but the last two books to me were pretty hard slogs, esp coming after how deliriously good the third one was. I wouldn't mind Benioff and Weiss editing the hell out of those and making them into ONE season.

NDT's apparently too busy inhaling a different kind of pathogen.

I've always felt the exact same way- to me, Queen makes B'way songs (full of life, complex, expansive) way better than Broadway itself makes them. As a (wannabe/shitty) songwriter myself, I'm in awe of them- they get away with murder, thanks to their vocals and chops. And lovely lovely unitards.

I enjoyed that one too- best coming-of-age i've read in a while. Thousand Autumns is good too, in case you haven't read it.

It's entered the 'Morrissey' stage then?

Was only making a joke on Morrissey's (fairly undisputed) tendency to be overly dramatic. The menopause was related to that, not anything to do with homosexuality. Come on folks! Big Smiths fan too, for what it's worth.
