Yes, very well done indeed, Electric Dragon. I kiss thy sweet foot.

Funny you should mention that.

They easily could have done a series set before the first one and kept it in proper numerical order by giving the title some variation on "Blackadder Number 0."

I would have liked that as well. I think Mel Smith would have been well cast as Winston Churchill in a WW2 Blackadder. Possibly Griff Rhys Jones could have put on an American accent and played FDR? Pamela Stephenson retired from show biz not too long after the end of NtNOCN, sad to say, so she likely wouldn't have

I don't mind Mr. Bean. Atkinson is a very gifted mime and physical comedian, and he could pull off that whole 'silent movie' brand of humor very well. Then again, Bean worked best in small doses, which is why the tv program was tolerable, while the movies were less so.

"Honestly, what's the point of being the Scarlet Pimpernel if you're going to fall for the poisoned cup routine? Scarlet Pimpernel, my foot! Scarlet Git is more like it!"

Yeah, it was cut due to copyright purposes, but it was reinserted for the most recent DVD box collection.

As with Robbie Coltrane in I&I, the casting notes for these two episodes are so obvious, they might seem to be barely worth mentioning; none of the guest actors here are exactly obscure. Still, for the record: Nigel Planer's participation in N&N (and Adrian Edmonson 's in S4) make a total of 3 out of 4 Young Ones to

Baldrick: "They seek him 'ere,
they seek him there,
they seek that Pimple everywhere.
Is 'e in 'eaven or is 'e in 'ell?"

I wonder how different things would have been had Cleese remained and one of the others dropped out of the 4th series? Perhaps we might have some comparison had the boys filmed Eric Idle's Crusades idea for an additional Python movie 15 years or so back. It's tempting to think they could have pulled it off, but maybe

Mr. Neutron himself is hilarious, even if the episode surrounding him is somewhat less so.

Well, shit, Zack, if nothing else I thought you'd at least be doing the films.

Right, then: Any opinions about the various changes the 3rd series brings to the BA formula? There's no "enemy" figure in the vein of Harry, Melchett or Darling, and no "friend" character a la Percy or George. Just good old Balders as Edmund's sidekick/servant, and (natch) Mrs. Miggins, who really doesn't count.

And we mustn't forget:

Also in regards to Edmund's motivations in S3 is his commentary on class politics from D&D: "It's a right old mess: Toffs at the top, plebs at the bottom, and me in the middle, making a fat pile of cash out them both!"

When TR was knighted, one of the British tabloids (I forget which one) began their report of the story thusly: "It's Edmund Blackadder's greatest nightmare…"

"It's semi-autobiographical."

Yes, I too hope that Kate will do a review that covers all 3 of the specials. They need their own discussion thread where we can all obsess over them to death.

Yeah, I've always assumed Ivor Biggun and the Standing at the Back Dressed Stupidly and Looking Stupid Party was a homage to the Pythons' Silly Election sketch. How could it not be?

Blast your eyes!
