I'm with you on this.  It's not awful, but it's utterly generic, whose release date is geared toward getting maximum playing time on the poolside radio and over the speakers at resort-area shopping places.

I like how the sketch added the literalist theatrics to the songs (blowing wind, rolling stone).  It also made me think of an actual early Elvis TV appearance where he was forced to sing "Hound Dog" to… an actual hound dog.

To be fair to Marshall, his two 50s shows were derivative of American Graffiti, which incredibly squeezed out a nostalgia craving for a story that supposedly happened just eleven years earlier.  (Movie comes out in '73 with the story set in '62, as the poster asked the viewer to remember where they were back then.)
