FWIW I feel Quentin Tarantino does something similar: examine schlock and figure out how to improve it. Sometimes it's even examining great films like White Heat and then improving on them as he did with Reservoir Dogs imo (mostly by putting the undercover cop in danger).

On one hand, glad it gets better. On the other hand that's a lot of wasted time to get there.

Is it analyzed at all? I suspect that white privilege is probably a good lens to view the series through but I'm not convinced the writers know that.

"meant to be kind of a hippy dippy character who also happens to have been trained as a fighting machine"

(and I'm leaving out that one of the first things I, and I believe most people, learn when you study marital arts is that first and foremost one should avoid fighting)

They're office security guards. They were going to forcibly escort him out the building or at worst detain him for the cops. They weren't going to kill him. They fought him only because he insisted there be a fight. He's an asshole.

Why on earth is he fighting them in the first place? He's injuring and giving people concussions for doing their job. That he decided to fight his way through has made me dislike him from the beginning. What a jerk.

The only thing unprecedented about the decision is it has yet to be used as a precedent to strike down Muslim Ban 3.0.

Have you (or anyone else) seen Strange Empire? It's a western TV show she starred in about a Canadian town where all the men were killed so it's governed by women. The review of the premiere I've read makes it sound promising.

Drummer is the best.

He also plans to cut Meals on Wheels because he's a fucking monster.

Main thing I remember about the book is the reporter character drank a lot of coffee. It was a terrible book.

And while it may be gauche to reply to your own comment, it's also silly not to have looked at Velocirapstar's comment history so I'm embracing my silly gaucherie. Yesterday Mr. Snrub gave a clearer explanation here.

Not entirely sure what is going on, but wanted to say I love Politics Corner and your column. Wish Travis, Velocirapstar, and Mr. Snrub the best.

No shame (and a great deal of good) in blocking or unfriending
