Galaxy 2 is so ridiculously good. The levels struck did a better job at being a bit bigger and more explore-able.
But christ almighty. I cannot remember what that final boss is.

Play Sunshine. You'll love it. No sky levels!

Yes, but that pony? Seabiscut. And its trick? Making one of the best animated shows of all time. It makes sense if you really think about it.

They're all like that, though. World, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy. (I honestly don't remember what Galaxy 2's final boss fight was like). They always have very clever final levels, but the fight itself is always a little bit of a let down.
The first Mario game to have a truly brilliant, challenging final boss was surprisingly

I truly wonder if they'll do it. It's one of the reasons I'm so excited for Yooka Laylee: nobody is making those sorts of platformers anymore. Of course the Galaxy games and 3D Land/World are masterpieces of game design, but they feel quite different to me from 64 and Sunshine, which put Mario into an actual world,

Pfft. I'm not a total scrub. Of course I did.

Completely agree. Maybe in my top 5 favorite games of all time. It was a really formative game for me that I'm thrilled to say actually holds up wonderfully.
Biggest WTF moment for me in either of those games is Bottles dying at the beggining of Tooie. And then you go to his family's home and Kazooie makes jokes

I don't think I ever did beat Wendy's Castle on the GBA one. So probably not. On the SNES one you don't have to beat everything to unlock the alt-world, just the secret levels.

Mmm, I disagree. I didn't like it at the time, but I rewatched the series last year and I thought the Michael Scott Paper Company stuff was pretty genius. Season 5 in general is just super solid. Not really a bad episode there, but I'd say the episode where Scott drives to the Eudicha (spelling?) branch and they dress

The first two seasons of Ren & Stimpy…man oh man, just some of the best animation ever on television. Anyone studying animation should watch it. John K. really tried to capture the magic of classic Looney Toons-style animation, and he damn well did it. Even after he left the show, there was still some great episodes,

They brought that Eel back in New Super Mario Bros.
I was simultaneously amused and pissed.

Wait a minute. We're all idiots. IDIOTS.
The correct answer to this question is "The Goddamn Final Boss Fight of Super Mario Sunshine."
Now, Sunshine is my favorite game. Ever. I love it. But I am never not unsettled by the fact that the final boss fight is Bowser chilling in a giant, floating hot-tub with Peach.

Holy shit, what?? I've always wanted to play Captain Rainbow, because it sounded completely insane, but…what was the game rated? A Mario game with a full-on dildo?

The most unsettling part of the game is that, instead of a whimsical flagpole, bell, or whatever the hell Mario World's goal-thing is, you have to go through the gaping maw of some demonized crow head. Like, what the hell, Nintendo? That shit's scary.

I don't even think you can get all the stars without that…
Yeah Wet Dry World, as much as I hate swimming in Mario games, was another one that blew my mind. The atmosphere is so somber and strange. The other levels feel like places, somewhat (not to the extent of Sunshine, but still). There's some kind of environmental

Those little touches of Tim Burton-y darkness are what's missing from the newer Mario games. I love the pure, unadulturated joy of 3D Land/World as much as the next guy, but the next 3D Mario game needs a never-ending staircase/creepy-ass Hotel/haunted mansion type thing to instill fear in children.

Whaaa? Holy crap, I truly did not think the alt-world was in the GBA version. I did for sure beat all the Super Secret levels, but I didn't get all the Yoshi coins or anything like that. Or maybe I'm a total dumbass and just convinced my young, stupid brain that I had beat all the levels when I truly did not. This is

I'm a weirdo who had played Tooie a million times but never Kazooie. Tooie just had such a wonderful atmosphere, and the way all the levels were interconnected captivated my young imagination. I was struck by how much simpler Banjo Kazooie is—it took me years to beat Tooie, but I was able to beat Kazooie in a few days

That tall child looks terrible!
