Everybody in Canada loves to bitch about the Other (I think that "Bitching about the Other" was the title of a Northrop Frye essay…or it should have been.) Toronto bitches about Montreal, Quebec bitches about the Anglos, Saskatoon bitches about Regina, Conservatives bitch about the Liberals, the NDP bitches about the

MYOF could track Gary Sinise for a column. He has been in some wildly divergent shit as far as box office success goes.

If Stephen Harper's Conservatives got a majority government, I think Canada would make a pretty hard right turn, but only in some respects. Using the New Zealand comparison, I think there would be quite a bit of privitizin' going on, and a stronger private tier worked into the Medicare system. But social changes

This would work for "Triumph of the Will" as well.

I'm a tranny and a Space: 1999 fan who looks like a butch Barbara Bain and I haven't done too bad for myself.

Nuts, I'm wrong. According to the Kubrick Archives book, The Shining, FMJ and EWS were all shot full-frame (1.33:1) but projected at 1.85:1. So I have no idea why I thought EWS was projected at 1.66. Maybe I stretched my eyes too high that day.

All of the digital figures added to the orgy scene should have been Jar Jar Binks.

I'll get to that later.

I do care, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

A few years ago I was speaking with a director of some note who lives in England, and he said that Kubrick had gone a little nutters by EWS and was consistently reshooting entire scenes two, three or four times. Now, this particular director generally shoots a setup in three or four takes, so his perspective on what

If he couldn't direct actors, then it would result in wild inconsistency not only between performers in each film, but in each actor's performance from scene to scene to scene.

Oh dear. Barry Lyndon telling the story of his exploits to his son at what will be his deathbed is not only very good acting on the part of Ryan O'Neal, but just may very well be the most emotionally touching scene in any Kubrick film.

I think the theatrical release was projected at 1.66:1, rather than the usual 1.85:1 or 2.35:1. So a full-frame transfer wouldn't be that far off from a 1.66:1 mask.

I want an AV Club Comment-Board-Posters Fantasy Camp.

Janet! I have a present for you!

I believe Berke agrees with you on Krazy Kat.

Some of them were published in Classics, plus some early Bloom County character sketches. I believe that there was an AW anthology published, but it's been long, long out of print.

And Walt Kelly ripped off Al Capp. And Al Capp ripped off…oh hell, Voltaire?

Those do sound good. Much obliged, ZMF.

Oh dammit, I need to know. What kind of cookies did Janet make?
