I actually like the frame story. Making an overarching narrative that runs through so many parts of history and into the present day is pretty damn ambitious.

Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol was great. I remember near the end, one of the characters is in a world of talking chairs, and later the narrative mentions, with a wistful note, that there are other worlds where chairs don't talk.
