It seems that current TNG syndication has a mix of remastered and unremastered episodes (with the earlier seasons being remastered). It's jarring when you see a crystal clear episode on BBC America followed by a murkier-looking episode like we've been watching for years.

Yes and no. It had a lot more heart and character, which have been developed in more interesting ways in places like the IDW comics, which show the potential for Transformers (real characters, awesome sci-fi adventure, rich mythology, political intrigue, etc.) that the movies miss.
