(Baltar stifles a giggle… Trek 2009 was almost like watching a movie and a neon sign at the same time. Entertaining movie, though.)

re: Unplugged is an awesome album. but watching it is even better: I videotaped Unplugged from MTV when it was first broadcast. There's the extended "Iiiiiiiiiiiii'm" from "Pennyroyal" where Kurt hits the wrong chord; this is edited out for the official CD version, which was released later. ("Official" meaning,

The Outsiders' Club
This is probably the best-written article I've ever seen in the A.V. Club—and most of the articles here are pretty darned good. However, as usual, I'm so far behind in my reading (at the AV Club and everywhere else) that I didn't see this until today.

Yes, it's what the Thirteen Colonies have been waiting for: I watched the Galactica 1980 episode "The Return Of Starbuck" again yesterday to see how I'd react.

Blood Sister: One Tough Nun

Re: flying motorcycles: the compositing process not only had obvious matte-lines, the perspective was all off. Flying motorcycles are cool *in principle*, though.

"The Return Of Starbuck" was good by Galactica 1980 standards, which means that I thought it was good WHEN I WAS IN THE 2nd GRADE. I re-watched "T.R.O.S." within just the last year or two, and I feel almost embarrassed to admit that I once liked it so well.

Jimmy James: how long have you had that Star Trek avatar? This is the first I've noticed it. In any case… it rocks!

Re: ""Remember when Metallica stole the song by Excel, "Tapping into the Emotional Void" and called it "Enter Sandman"? And then Excel said they were honored by the theft? That was awesome.""

UPDATE: I've already significantly scaled back my anti-Bret Michaels stance, but this video clinches it: I officially do not hate Bret Michaels.

Digital Fat Suit—Weird Al, Take Note
1) I feel sorry for Vincent D'Onofrio, who gained weight to play Pvt. Pyle in Full Metal Jacket; 2) this technology brings us one step closer to A Confederacy Of Dunces: The Movie.

Excellent point, yeah… but remember, even so, that "Strawberry Fields Forever," while it's arguably one of the best songs ever, isn't the best radio single that The Beatles did. "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields" were among the first material completed for the Sgt Pepper sessions, and (if I've got me Beatle facts

RDM and Wild Wild West
Along with several others on The AV Club and elsewhere, I'm one of RDM's biggest defenders.

Lost Spoilers Didn't Spoil Lost
I asked for—and got—some Lost spoilers from a knowledgeable friend who had already seen the series. The info didn't spoil the show for me. I found it helpful to know pretty much all along, for instance, that the smoke monster is quite distinct from the smoke that appears on the

It *does* show up for me if I press the Play button: I use Firefox with the FlashBlock add-on, so embedded flash content shows up as a blank rectangle. It doesn't auto-play, but it *can* be played. Would've saved myself some (very minimal, in fact!) embarrassment if I'd actually watched the compilation of Cannell's

re: platen: Thanks! I actually knew the word (probably from something like a 1980s daisy wheel printer manual, I guess), and might have eventually remembered it, given time, but I'd never known exactly how to pronounce it.

For Stephen J Cannell
Has anyone yet mentioned the low-tech, thoroughly awesome logo animation they did at the end of Mr. Cannell's programs? It begins with a few seconds of live-action as the camera dollys (dollies? How's that spelled?) around Cannell as he works at his typewriter. He grabs the completed sheet

Never Rest and his Ben Folds lyrics for the win.

Or, wait—maybe there *were* comments here at one point, but they vanished. No?

I collect VHS copies of This Is Spinal Tap—the ones that say "AND THERE'S NO EASTER BUNNY, EITHER!" at the end. Even if Christopher Guest found this charming, I probably won't be appearing in his film because I've never done anything questionable to obtain any of these tapes.
