Well, maybe no one is following this thread anymore, but: I saw Avatar yesterday, liked it faaaaaaairly well, certainly better than The AV Club reviewer did, and I posted a review.

Yes, I'm replying to my own post (more like amending it). One other complaint is that they didn't get Paul Reiser to play the sleazy corporate guy! WHY NOT? I'll forgive this omission if he was unavailable or not interested, but… I mean, they had Ripley in Avatar; why not Burke too? :-)

Avatar Gets a B From Baltar
I finally saw Avatar, which means that I'm a little late to this particular party. I saw it in IMAX 3-D, sitting a little off-angle since I was in an aisle seat, but—with my layman's knowledge of optics (polarization and such)—I was able to perceive the three-dimensional effect pretty

@wallflower:

Yeah, Q was so entertaining that he could even make *VOYAGER* entertaining. As for "Savage Curtain" (the insane episode with Space Lincoln), it's got a great line: HELP ME, SPOCK! However, in the episode "Arena" where Kirk fights the Gorn, the motives of the godlike beings were more reasonable (on a scale running,

@Jorge Von Salsa:

THERE ARE FOUR FEMALE MODELS.
THEY LOOK AND FEEL HUMAN.
TWO OF THEM ARE PROGRAMMED TO THINK THEY ARE HUMAN.
ONE OF THEM IS PROGRAMMED TO THINK SHE'S A BETAZOID.
ONE OF THEM IS PROGRAMMED TO THINK THAT IT'S A COMPUTER… which is pretty much what, uh, goes on with computers (programming and stuff), so… I guess I'd better

Spectre Of The Gun/ Is There In Truth No Beauty
I also didn't like "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" although I *did* like Dr. Pulaski from TNG. Glad to know that Zack and so many others like "Spectre Of The Gun." As I wrote back in the Summer of 2008, before my life (and quite possibly almost everyone else's lives)

@Saddleback:

I love that song too. Literally within the last few days I wrote this quotation (complete with 'epigram' in capitals) on a Post-It and stuck it to my computer monitor at work:
.
EPIGRAM
"… the years move faster than the days, there's no warmth in the light…"
— A lyric from "Benson, Arizona," the theme song of the movie

@wallflower:
I'm a loyal Kubrick fan, but I've just gotta know: what is 'Fuck You Kubrick night'?

One thing I don't get about Ghostbusters is the intended punctuation/ interpretation of one particular line. Is it:

I like women, quadrants, and James Cameron films, so—
I like women, quadrants, and James Cameron films, so it appears that I'm obligated to watch Avatar even though the previews are kind of *meh*. However, I have nagging doubts. There are a few women I don't like, there are one or two James Cameron films that are

@ MelissaW re Chris Pine as Kirk in Trek 11:

Damn, Felt Pelt! (Pronounced as DAY-om). That's awesome. I couldn't think of anyone for the droids, though…

I liked Pac-Man Fever and Weird Al when I was in grade school… and still do. Pac-Man Fever is criminally underrated; AllMusic gives it one-and-half stars out of five. I guess you just had to be about 9 years old when it came out, or it will have no meaning or resonance for you. Keep your Panic! At The Disco mp3s,

@ Felt Pelt re:

Okay, granted, but there are sometimes great videos for terrible songs: "Take On Me" by A-Ha and the one Lauryn Hill video where a scaled-up record needle "plays" a city (New York City, maybe?) on a turntable. The Daft Punk song with the "Star Blazers"-style video is exempt because Daft Punk songs are (I think… )

My list of imaginary band names is extensive and awesome, but I don't want anyone to steal them. So here's an item from the B-list:
