Is that very relevant? I saw it as symbolic of the shark-killing and whatnot that goes on around Japan fairly commonly.

It's so wonderfully tragic and devastating and bittersweet and nostalgic, rolled into one song. I don't know if even the dubbed version had the original Japanese song with the lyrics translated, but they really are some of the best lyrics I've ever read.

I think it's worth considering that the subs might be sounding awkward because they are a better translation of the original.

But it does play up on the HUGE coincidences/Spike's bad luck/Spike's-being-a-magnet-for-trouble thing. It's an aspect of the anime that never goes away; nearly every episode happens by chance or luck or some such thing.

I'd say that's true, maybe to a lesser extent, about Spike and Jet though. SPOILERS. I felt like the whole point of the show was that they were all searching for something, which they had right in their midst - family, home, love - it was there on the Bebop. And by the time they realised it, it was essentially too

I thought Faye was better with the original Japanese actress too.

That's quite interesting because I actually prefer the Subbed version - but then again, I tend to watch even Doctor Who on subtitles. So I probably just prefer simultaneously reading and watching. >_<

There are quite a few differences between the series that is dubbed in English and the one that has English subtitles. I would actually recommend watching both, if you're particularly interested in it; I'm quite into nitpicking and through that, I found that slightly different things were emphasised in the Eng Sub one

It's also pretty amazing how much is left in the background or is hazy or underlayered in this episode, particularly in reference to Faye, to such an extent that when you rewatch the session, you see new facets of her character or further emphasis on what you found out later on in the series. It's a brilliantly

I think they have a certain code they adhere to, which isn't strictly moral or religious but it's…kind of their version of the code is probably the best way of describing it. A great example is actually Faye herself. SPOILER ALERT! For all that Faye constantly steals money from people, including Spike and Jet

Have you heard of a site called Bebop Musings? They have actual essays on various aspects of the anime. If you're quite into this anime, particularly in a slightly more analytical sense, it's worth going there to see if there's something that catches your fancy. I'm currently thinking about writing an essay on the use

What I absolutely loved is that it set up the banter that persists between Faye and Spike throughout the show perfectly. You can see Faye trying to play Spike a little bit, Spike humourously antagonising her, especially with his nonchalance. You even see the irritated, amused almost paternal attitude of Jet. In one

Anyone else think that the Treble Tones or whatever should have won instead? I thought the New Directions songs were pretty lacklustre and dull.

Going back to something you said in last week's/episode's review, I would actually love it if this show WAS about Cassie succumbing to the dark magic slowly and reluctantly. It would actually make one hell of a show! Supernatural did this really well with Sam Winchester succumbing to demon blood addiction (yeah,

I actually find Faye's character the most relatable. If I had magic and then some girl decided to join the group together, and then I didn't have magic and some whining, boyfriend-stealing girl kept complaining about hers, I'd damn well take it! Wouldn't you?

You know, funnily enough, I had similar thoughts. I would LOVE it if they moved away from the whole Faye-is-blatantly-the-half-sister-with-evil-magic. I actually thought maybe it was Melissa that was evil…and then they got ill.

I quite like the mention of how Faye (and then Adam) got in the way of the friendship. It would be interesting to learn about how Faye became Faye and what happened. Presumably, these three girls were friends together until they drifted apart; it would be great to know why.

I have to admit that I enjoyed this show, if only because Faye FINALLY called out the hypocrisy that allows Poor Little Cassie to get away with nearly killing Adam and actually killing Nick, when Faye does get burnt at the stake for the same reasons. I've been noticing those double standards for ages and it was

Is the purpose of this show to make us viewers sympathise with all the evil characters? So the main reason David doesn't like his wife is because…she doesn't seem real…and the only thing that seems real is Snow White… Are you shitting me?! If I were his wife, I would go evil witch on his arse faster than you can say

I thought it was Bellatrix Lestrange, as acted by the wonderful HBC.
