"Laverne & Shirley" was genuinely funny at times, too. The characters in general were more interesting and vivid than on "Happy Days". Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were already a team, having written together for themselves before, and Lenny & Squiggy had Michael McKean, who also wrote some of their material.
