Sussing out what's coming next has been the bedrock of internet movie and TV culture since Lost.

Too bad we gotta get old, Stallion.

If that happened, what would be the replacement for "I heard there's a sportsball game at the [Insert name of half time act] concert" line?

If you saw The Hateful Eight and didn't know what he was getting at as soon as Kurt Russell put those glasses on, or didn't recognise almost every single music cue in Django Unchained, then you just haven't seen all the films Tarantino is copy and pasting into his own westerns. His films are lousy with things that

Do you post on r/truefilm?

I just can't watch those things. Political debates always seem like a fugazi and this one is a lot of people who get paid a lot of money scrambling to make this election seem like a legitimate and worthwhile event instead of a dog and pony show.

I watched Desperately Seeking Susan again last night and had a troubling thought. The film is a lot of fun in many ways - I especially like how it's a 80s movie that doesn't have the protagonists aspiring to get a desk job - but a lot of it is myth making for Madonna and, this time around, I noticed that in a lot of

Did any blockbuster directors have a run like Emmerich did in the 90s? Universal Soldier followed by Stargate followed by Independence Day. It's all downhill from there, yes, but that's three genre classics back to back to back.

Missing is one of the few true club classics. Still love it after all these years.

Again, there's a difference between soaked in and built upon. I can't think of a moment from one of Wright's films that isn't a reference to something else whereas I can do that with who and what you mentioned.

The things I like aren't based on comic books or have whole subreddits dedicated to them so they never come up in discussion on this website anymore. I also said one of those four listed was good so you could have at least asked which it was.

It's told from his perspective and never hints that it might be a bad thing to base your entire life around second hand references to pop culture. I'd be more willing to accept that as a mode of storytelling instead of total indulgence were it not for the character arc of Simon Pegg in the World's End, which shows

Scattered suggests there's more than a minute or two between each reference and, even going as far back as Spaced, that's not true. His work is built on other people's material every step of the way and both Scott Pilgrim and The World's End are incredibly congratulatory about it too - and that probably applies to

I'd agree if the film ever felt like it wasn't on Scott's side.

If your work is nothing but references you're an unoriginal hack like Edgar Wright, yes.

This is a reference to Street Fighter, and that's why it's funny.

Not only do I find it funny, I've made a lot of money since posting it.

With how bad movies are these days, being a contrarian in the minority is for the best. Just because a lot of people like it, it doesn't make it good.

Guardians of the Galaxy was among, if not - off the top of my head - the worst film(s) of that year and helped set the precedent for the bad movies that are coming out now. Irony, nostalgia and references upon references are all big movies are now and Marvel did a lot to help them get away with it.

I don't know how similar it is with the BBFC in the UK but the only films I've ever seen rated 18 were because of sexual content. Even in terms of language, swearing is generally fine besides for the c-word.
