I remember hearing that some people actually had to demonstrate that TVs bought for purposes other than receiving a TV broadcast had to be shown to be modified so they could no longer pick up the signal.

I have to admit, I've bought all of Jeremy Clarkson's books and I actually quite like them even though I know next to nothing about vehicles and I don't even own a car either.

I know, the cheek of it all! I seriously couldn't believe the bullshit I was hearing and how he could say it with not just a straight but an actually angry face as if the BBC had done him a great injustice as opposed to their repeatedly fucking us instead!

Yes, that of course, yes. The BBC alone is still an excellent service and its news programmes are still excellent regardless of what any (even lesser) Murdochs say before being forced to shut up and disappear (at least for a while) after their publications are caught phone hacking.

Well, it is becoming a huge amount to increasing numbers of people but they're worrying about such things as food and affording enough heating to not freeze in the winter (and not always succeeding). Those people in that situation are obviously not worrying about TV at all, though.

It a) doesn't work like that, different arms of the company.

Those were the days …

Well, I think it's what part of this whole iPlayer business was about, the legislation didn't cover it because at the time, it couldn't have even conceived of such a thing. I agree, it's probably a losing battle in the long run, though.

I'm guessing here but the system's been factored into revenue for so long, it's probably too difficult to remove it and make up the shortfall. Also, I believe they have less advertisements than us in places that abolished TV licences decades ago but I'm not entirely sure.

The ongoing battles between citizens of the UK and television inspectors are quite fascinating. Especially since inspectors can't seem to grasp that there are people who in fact do not want to own a TV, which leads to them asking if they can look around (to be sure) and homeowners reminding them they are not in fact

It's getting embarrassing over at The Guardian. They're so partisan in their bashing of Jeremy Corbyn at the moment that large swathes of their own comments sections are ridiculing them, including people who have no intention of voting for Corbyn but at least would like the news covered in a reasonably balanced

Yeah, we did Doom 2 as well. Double shotgun "Hail to the King, baby!" and all that (including a lot of chainsaw deaths). It was great, we had two 486s hooked up with a serial cable in the residential college computer room.

I think I went through at least two computers and two copies of Civilization 2 when I got a copy of that game. One of my favourites ever.

Those are the exact three games that we used to play endlessly on our university network too (back in 1995 admittedly). Always felt from a business point of view that the Descent free demo gave away too much of the game because why would you need to buy the whole thing when the free version was so much of it.

It doesn't matter if you accept it or not. They'll just reboot reality and make a new one.

Courage Under Fire justifies its existence for its contribution to that utterly amazing Bronson Pinchot Random Roles interview.

On the other hand, it is Mohd.

Oh thank God you're back. I was about to re-enter the Zone and go through the Door but your return has steeled my resolve to resist.

It's a great article, isn't it? The idea behind doing it in the first place was inspired. A remarkable array of talent and just people generally playing the passengers on the bus. I also like it how they frequently kept encountering each other in future jobs and remembered each other so fondly. It's like they were

You can if you like, that's you're prerogative but I find it more fun to fight the inevitable and rage against it every last chance I get. If I'm going out, it's not going to be quietly. I think that's more the type of person you are too.
